A WIM (Weigh-in-Motion) system allows to measure the dynamic loading on the rails. This is an important parameter in the dimensioning of the rail system, including foundations, level crossing, and bridges. A permanent monitoring allows to evaluate the total loading put on the rail system during its lifetime.
The dynamic loading can also be calculated to a quasi-static axle weight of passing vehicles. This allows to identify the vehicles causing high loading on the rails.
