The WORM system detects wheel flats and out-of-roundness on heavy and light rail vehicles. It is a reliable, fast and affordable technology for the detection of wheel geometry anomalies, using vibration measurement and analysis. Time and frequency domain analysis is performed for each vehicle passage. Results are calculated and reported in real-time and are stored in a measurement database, used for measurement trending.
The two main advantages of applying a WORM system in a railway network:
- Increased safety, by a real-time alert of incident-caused faults such as flats
- Optimized maintenance, by a measurement database of growing faults such as wheel ovality (from uneven steel quality)
